The first thing that catches the eye on the main street of Zelat am See is the myriad of après ski bars, as well as carriages parked near them with children who, from infancy, are attached to the culture of skiing holidays. Of course, this does not mean that poor kids are forced to spend time at the resort exclusively in noisy places and companies, since parents have nowhere to go with them. As living next door to one of these establishments, we declare: it’s just very difficult to resist the temptation to skip a glass of hot wine when you don’t need to enter the smoky bar room, but all you need to do is stretch your hand passing by the tables outside. Well, there are more than enough wonderful places for walking with children and all sorts of entertainment for the whole family in Zell am See, so you still have to fight for the opportunity to wander around the center of the resort, between the bar tables. Here is a list of our personal preferences:
These alpine slides, located in the Maiskogel ski area, can compete with many ski slopes in terms of adrenaline rush: five loops, five jumps, bends, climbs and rapid descents at speeds up to 40 km / h. For a twelve-minute trip on this extreme ride, you can thwart the voice from a scream. Children from 3 to 7 years old are allowed only when accompanied by adults. The price of one trip is € 10 (for an adult), € 7 (for children from 8 to 15 years old) and € 4.50 (for children from 3 to 7 years old). Opening hours: from 11 am to dusk (Mon – Fri) and from 9 am to dusk (Sat and Sun). www.maiskogel.at
Judging by our little lovers of tractors and snow removal equipment, skiing on a snow cage after closing the lifts can be a highlight for children, and for their parents too. Take part in the preparation of slopes, which the next day you and thousands of other skiers will have to go down – is this not a reason for extra pride? Well, if we add to this the impressive data of the snow monster Prinoth Beast: weight is 11 tons, engine power is 500 horsepower, then it becomes clear why a walk along the slopes on a ratrak needs to be booked much in advance. Price – 50 € per person, trip duration – 2.5 hours, time and place for gathering passengers – 17:00,
This family fun in the mountains, which does not require special knowledge and training with an instructor. It is enough to rent a sled and get to the beginning of the descent, and then only have time to brake with legs or other parts of the body. One of the toboggan runs (1.5 km long) is located in the Schmittental zone, near the Kohlergraben restaurant, and goes down to the Waldhof hotel. From the center of the resort to the Schmittenhohe / trassXpres station, from December 25 to March 12, special buses for the luggers run – Rodelbus (the schedule can be taken from the office for tourism in Zell am See). Sledge will have to rent in advance – there are rentals at the hotels Waldhof and Landgasthof Stadt Wien, as well as in sports shops. Another route (length – 2 km) is located in Kaprun: from the Rodelbahn lift, you need to walk 30 minutes to the restaurant at the guggenbichl guest house, but you can don’t pull the equipment on yourself – everyone gives them sledges for free. The track is lit and open until 11 pm.
Here, each playground is a whole kingdom of nice looking wooden structures, ropes, stairs, slides, swings, made with love and with the knowledge of what children of all ages need. On such islands of children’s happiness that develop physical skill and imagination, kids can hang for hours. When Tim and Luka got to the site near the lake, they instantly turned into little explorers, and did not leave it without testing the capabilities of each design. There are not so many such equipped places for games available to everyone at the resort: in addition to the one we found at the lake, there is one more near the Alpine Coaster in Kaprun, and at the intermediate lift station leading to the glacier in Alpincenter there is a nice game room.
There are a lot of playgrounds located in skiing areas (all of them, as a rule, belong to ski kindergartens and schools and are intended for students): on a children’s hill near Areitbahn I and Kinderland lift at the top station of the same lift – Areitalm (for Ski Schule Zell wards am See) and the vast territory of BOBO’s Kinderland in Kaprun with a pirate ship and the main star – Bobo penguin skier (for customers of the Ski Dome Oberschnider). By the way, at the Ski Dome Oberschnider ski school there is not only a kindergarten (mini-club) where you can take a non-rolling child from 2 to 3 years for 2-5 hours, but also a nursery for very young children – from 0 to 2 years.
