It must be admitted that during our stay in the snowy Villars we were constantly warmed by the idea that just 18 km from the resort is the thermal complex Les Bains de Lavey, “connected” to the hottest springs in Switzerland, the temperature of which reaches 70C. Of course, it enters the local pools chilled to 34-36C, but these degrees are quite enough to instantly get drunk with pleasure. In addition, water, as usual in the Alps, is not simple, but healing: it contains half of the periodic table in various compounds that are useful for the skin and the musculoskeletal system.
We, of course, could not but be tempted by such water data, so we handed Tim and Luka to the popes (they do not allow children under four years old in the baths), but we ourselves got into the car and went to the hottest spot on the map of the Lake Geneva region.
And now, literally forty minutes later, we find ourselves in a small lobby, where we buy at the reception three hours of bliss for 21 euros and go through the cafe L’Arc-en-Ciel to the changing rooms. Everything, like everywhere else: a bracelet with a locker key, a shower, foot disinfection – and now you can dive into the indoor pool, which has magic nozzles embedded in its walls, from which, according to the schedule, massage jets are beaten. And here every hour a musical pause is arranged, during which the divine sounds of the Tchaikovsky play in January are poured from speakers installed at a depth. And absolute relaxation comes, and in fifteen minutes with surprise you find yourself swaying on the surface of the water in the “star” pose, while already having a rest both soul and body.
From the pool we go to the eastern pavilion with boors: there are four of them – two common, one female and one male. Near the glass doors of each steam room indicated temperature and humidity: 40C and 50C, 80% and 100%. In general, the hamame smells like eucalyptus, you can hardly see a few more visitors behind the steam curtain, everyone is sitting quietly so as not to disturb others from meditating. In the zone with boors, there are shower cabins, and at the exit, sun loungers waiting in front of the panoramic windows overlooking the mountains and outdoor pools are waiting for the rest.
It is windy and even snowing outside, but the magic water does not freeze, and there are so many useful “attractions” (jacuzzi, massage jets for all parts of the body, waterfalls to combat osteochondrosis, a path with a strong current, sun beds with underwater massage) that I do not want to get out at all. Although, of course, the street pavilion with saunas also promises not to fail: hot and satisfied bathmakers practically naked popping out into the frost and rushing to the next hot house. Therefore, soon by an effort of will, we get out of the warm water and run, driven by the wind, to the nearest sauna, in order to sweat in the company of ten more of the same bliss. If you’re lucky, you can get to the session with aromatherapy or with a company ritual (they are held at 11.00, 16.30 and 19.00).
For lovers of special body treatments in the thermal complex there are massage and beauty treatments. In the spa menu – all kinds of relaxing massage, lymphatic drainage, reflexology, exotic techniques from around the world: Lomi Lomi, Thai massage, Shiatsu, as well as local specialties – watsu, something like shiatsu with water, and watu – the same, only with the elements of underwater massage.
The list of cosmetic procedures is also quite impressive: face and body masks, all kinds of lifts, scrubs, body wraps, manicures and pedicures, depilation and two branded rituals.
Well, our wonderful bathing day ended at the bar in the cafe L’Arc-en-Ciel: we drank a glass of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and decided to postpone the testing of beauty procedures for the next time – it was too good for us. And since our internal state was already reflected in our prettier and contented faces, it was even a little embarrassing to return home to the fathers, who skated because of us. But then they remembered their motto: “happy mother – happy family” and with a clear conscience went to Villars.
